"12 Years ago Jack had been dancing for about a year and was loving his dance classes. He had an experience where he was told by a few kids that “boys don’t dance”. I approached Gaea at Cadance Academy and asked her if she could help me find some older male dancers that Jack could talk to about dance. Without missing a beat she invited him to take part in The Nutcracker as one of Frit’z friends so he could be part of a performance with some of their older students. Since then, each year for 4 months, he would spend hours upon hours rehearsing his roles. From Fritz’s friends, to Fritz, to Soldiers, Harlequin Dolls, Trepak, Mother Gingers Children, Butler, and finally as The Nutcracker.

There is nothing that says "it's the holidays" in our family like The Nutcracker. After years attending the National Ballet of Canada's The Nutcracker every holiday season we were so excited to move back to the Valley and see that Cadance's annual presentation of The Nutcracker was flourishing! What a treat it is to watch our daughter smile in awe at the dancers on stage who absolutely shine, and to chat with our neighbours and friends in the lobby. This show changes in subtle ways every year and just gets better with time. After decades, we know to expect a fantastic show, beautiful costuming, and talented dancers shining on stage!

11 Nutcracker performance weekends, countless hours rehearsing, choreography, and beautiful friendships with other incredible dancers. Having some amazing role models to look up to , and becoming someone the younger dancers look up to in return. Every year I gave Jack a Nutcracker to commemorate another season. Today he stood with his collection of Nutcrackers, marking his final official year as a student dancer. Turns out, boys do dance and I wouldn’t want it any other way."
